Vimbai Masiyiwa is a Zimbabwean-born businesswoman. She is the second daughter of Zimbabwean billionaire, Strive Masiyiwa. Vimbai founded Batoka Hospitality alongside her mother in 2018. Batoka Hospitality is a hospitality and tourism company in sub-Saharan Africa, which focuses on creating unique travel experiences across Southern Africa and empowering local communities using tourism.
Her commitment to the industry is inspired by her drive to be a catalyst for transformation and growth for young Africans. Vimbai uses her work in luxury hospitality and tourism to create opportunities for local economic growth and career growth in the communities Batoka is located.
Vimbai is also a Mental Health Activist. She works alongside various African-based organizations to de-stigmatize mental health in Africa, particularly in rural communities.
Vimbai’s interest and subsequent work in mental health stem from her personal experiences. In 2016, after beating Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, Vimbai struggled with depression and anxiety, two illnesses people didn’t understand the way Cancer was understood. For Vimbai, the struggle with mental illness and Cancer had significant resemblance, yet not many understood this. Through her own healing and journey to educate herself on mental well-being, she felt there was a gap among many people, particularly Southern Africans in the understanding of well-being. As a result, Vimbai’s work in mental health is dedicated to education and destigmatization.
Vimbai serves as a board member of The Beast Wine Collection. She is also an advisor to several African-owned brands and organizations, which include Bantu Chocolate and Mimi et Mina.
